An Application
The weight of popular opinion was heavy. 10 out of the 12 spies spoke seditiously (treasonous) and the people went along with it. Popular opinion was to reject God. The experts (eye witnesses) almost unanimously agreed to reject God. These experts were chosen for being leaders (NUM 13:2). To side with Caleb and Joshua seemed like suicide, and siding with the other 10 seemed like the sane thing to do. But we'll see in the next story, the total opposite was the truth.
Connect the Dots
Caleb (and Joshua) was proven right man times over, perhaps most clearly in JOS 14:6-15.
